What’s the best option?

A complete transmission service with filter change is always better than a flush! Filters need to be replaced and a flush does not include a filter change

Your transmission filter can become restricted over time from clutch material and fine metal. This can lead to loss of operating pressure and complete transmission failure.

Some manufacturers claim their transmissions are filled for life. Meaning they don’t require a transmission fluid change. That is simply job security for the transmission shops. Transmission fluid gets degraded over time. We highly recommend servicing these transmissions at the same interval as other automatic transmissions with similar fluid characteristics.

Service the transmission

No transmission pan?

If your vehicle doesn’t have a transmission pan, a drain and refill is the best option

Why not a flush?

Replacing all of the transmission fluid at one time is simply NOT a good idea

with synthetic fluid: every 50,000 miles

with conventional fluid: every 30,000 miles

Transmission Flushing

Not the best option!

A complete transmission fluid exchange replaces all of the fluid at one time. This practice can shock your transmission causing premature failure

Transmission fluid has cleaning detergents in it that help wash away fine metal particles within the passages of your transmission. When the fluid gets broken down from extended use, these detergents become less aggressive and particles begin to gather and stick inside the fluid passages and shift valves. A flush introduces all new fluid with detergents that will break up those gathered particles all at once causing stuck shift valves and a plugged filter. Since the filter was not replaced after the flush, the transmission will lose operating pressure and burn up prematurely.
